2011 Bergen Wildcats Volleyball

Volleyball
Gold and Bronze at 2011 Fall Festival

2011 Fall Festival

The Wildcats put two volleyball squads on the courts in the 2011 season which ended on October 23rd at the Special Olympics NJ Fall Festival held at the Lawrenceville School fieldhouse. Based upon league play, the teams were placed in the same division for Fall Festival. The finals saw the two Wildcats squads (Black and Orange) play each other head to head with Black winning the duel. Wach team then played the PA Slammers with Black losing their match and Orange winning theirs. This left all three teams with identical 1-1 records inthe finals. The medal standings were determined by tie breakers rules of total points differential for the tournament (add up all the points you score and subtract all the point you gave up). After all of the calculations were done, the Orange squad was awarded the Gold medal and the Black squad took the Bronze. Congratulations to both squads for a great season.

Each team plays a best of three match against teams from around the State in the same competitive division. Games are played "rally style", which means a team scores on each play regardless of who has the serve. A rule change for the 2011 season involves league play only. During weekly matches, the teams will play all three games to 25 points. This was done in an effort to allow all teams to play an equal amount of time during the league matches thereby giving all teams an equal amount of practice and skill building before the Fall Festival. At Fall Festival the matches will revert to the competetive best of three with the first two games being played to 25 points (must win by 2) and the third game (if needed) will be is played to 15 points.
